Was he joking? These celebrities hit Tito Sotto’s remarks

May 5, 2017

What’s new about Tito Sotto? He is the senator whose name always trends. His name was all over social media after his controversial remarks about Social Welfare Secretary Judy Taguiwalo’s being single mother.

Many celebrities posted their opinions on social media against Sotto.

But first, here’s the convo:

Sotto: On the lighter side, Senator Drilon and I were looking at the personal information about you. You have two children. Daughters or sons?

Taguiwalo: Two daughters

Sotto: Two daughters? But you’re single?

Taguiwalo: My life has never been a normal one. I never had a ‘mother, father, children’ kind of thing, except when I was growing up in Bacolod. Remember, I graduated from UP in 1970. I did organizing work. 1972 to 1986, it has been life underground or in prison. So, my stories would be different from the stories of those who have gone through UP, (and then worked for) a corporation.

Sotto: Ah in street language, when you have children and you’re single ang tawag diyan (you call that) ‘na-ano lang.

Sec. Taguiwalo answered back, “Senator Sotto, I teach women’s studies in UP (University of the Philippines). We respect all kinds of families, and that includes solo parents.”

After Sotto’s controversial remarks, celebrities, director, writer expressed their thoughts on twitter.

Direk Antoinette Jadaone said, “Hay, Tito Sotto. God bless the women of the Philippines- na-ano or otherwise!”

Screenwriter Anj Pessumal expressed, “Hey Tito Sotto, isn’t your daughter Ciara separated frm her husband and now raising their child as a single mom? “Na-ano lang” din ba siya?”

Comedienne Pokwang shared, “Sa lahat ng single mom sa buong mundo, mabuhay tayong lahat!!! Yahooo! God bless us all. Hindi po ako na-ano lang! Naging single mom ako kasi wala pong bayag ang lalaking minahal ko! Pero binuhay ko ng marangal mga anak ko!”

TV Host Bianca Gonzalez tweeted, “Mabuhay ang mga solo parents, iba ang lakas at katatagan ninyo.”

Singer Saab Magalona called Tito Sotto, “Tito (tē-taw) n. Creepy guy you see at reunions. Stares at your legs. Cracks a misogynistic “joke.” The only one drinking beer at 10am.”

Unkabogable Star Vice Ganda expressed, “Anung ganap? Bakit parang nagkakaanuhan? Anu na?! May naano ba? Sinong nang aano? Wag kayong ano jan ha!”

Sotto’s name became a hot topic on twitter and facebook. Gabriela Women’s Party also attacked the senator.

The senator has already apologized.
