What’s the hardest role to fake according to Ian Veneracion
Ian Veneracion can relate to his character in “Puti,” because in real life, he is a painter himself.
As a matter of fact, he has successfully mounted several solo exhibits of his works.
He is also a certified fan of Gus Albor, Bencab, Lao Lianbe and Fernando Amorsolo.
In the movie “Puti,” Ian is glad that he is Direk Mike Alcazaren’s choice for the role of Amir, a counterfeit painter.
“Gusto niya kasi totoong painter kasi halata mo kapag hindi, kahit yung demeanor and temperament. Yung brother niya na si Johnny Alcazaren, painter din and I think siya iyong nag-insist na kunin ako. Noon ngang nabasa ko ang iskrip, sobra akong na-impress. Naisip ko, if this guy can direct as good as he can write, sabi ko it’s going to be a good movie,” Ian pointed out.
Although he is portraying a character close to him in real life, he admitted that he had some difficulty in giving life to Amir.
“For me, the hardest role to fake is not the one na sobrang layo sa’yo, eh. You always have the tendency to mimic or to pretend, but if the character is really, really close to the real you, it’s hard kasi it’s already blurring the lines. Parang di mo na alam kung umaarte pa ba ako o ako ito? Ganun. Iyong joke ko nga kay Mike noon, sabi ko pagkatapos ng shoot namin,
kailangan ko at least ten sessions ng psychotherapy,” he said.
“Mahirap kasi minsan bitawan lalo na kapag hindi ka na umaarte, ikaw na mismo ‘yun. It’s an actor’s aim or goal to not act on all the scenes. With “Puti,” wala ng acting, that was all me. Emotionally, I had to go through all the things that the guy went through, that’s why I’m very proud of my work here ,” he added.
According to Ian, he enjoys doing psychological thrillers like the acclaimed Jerold Tarog film “Bliss” where he co-starred with Iza Calzado.
He has also good words for Jasmine Curtis-Smith who plays Nika, his young assistant and his dealer of forged paintings in the movie.
“She’s such a natural. Magaling siya at enjoy akong kasama siya,” he concluded.
Now that his toprating Kapamilya teleserye “A Love to Last” is nearing its finale, he said that he’ll be missing the cast and crew of the entire production.
“Puti” is an entry to the first CineFilipino film festival. It is about the story of a bogus painter who figures in a freak car accident that renders him color blind.
Showing in all SM cinemas today until September 14 as part of CineLokal of the Film Development Council of the Philippines
