Wynwyn Marquez wants international crown, signs movie contract with Regal
After being crowned as Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas last month, Wynwyn Marquez is now busy preparing for Ms. Hispanoamericana pageant which will be held in Bolivia this November.
“Am now excited to perform kasi mga Latina ang mga kasama ko. Kailangang mag-level up sa kanila. I’m excited to learn dahil sanay na sila at alam kong marami akong matutunan sa kanila,” she said.
“Excited and at the same time nervous, kasi it’s a Spanish-based competition. Alam ng organization na hindi ako versed sa Spanish. Sabi nila naman, I don’t need to be fluent kasi they don’t speak perfect English din naman basta marunong lang daw ako ng basic Spanish at pati phrases. At saka may nakilala naman akong si Ms. Corazon who is from Miss Earth, sabi niya, she will help me before I go there,” she added.
She also clarified that the pageant is major one and just as prestigious as Ms. World, Ms. International or Ms. Universe.
“Actually, ako man, noong una, I didn’t know about it. So, we did a research. Apparently, 28 years na pala iyong pageant. Doon ang ‘pool’ nila sa mga sumasali sa Miss World. Bale, iyon ang nagiging training ground nila. Talagang ginagalingan nila dahil doon, kumukuha ng representative sa Miss World. Iyong ngang 1st runner up nila last year galing siya sa Hispanoamericana,” she explained.
She also gave her piece of mind on the angry comments of Latino pageant fans in a social media page “Miss Universo Club” who’s averse to her inclusion in the pageant.
The said group condemns the decision of the pageant organizers in allowing a Filipina to be part of the pageant.
“You can’t please everybody naman. Basta sa akin, ibinigay ang tiwala ng pageant, ayoko nang magpaapekto,” she reasoned out.
“Philippines naman is a country na napaka-close ang relations sa Spain. Malaki ang influence nila sa culture natin at maging sa language kasi karamihan sa mga words natin ay coined from Spanish,” she added.
For the record, Wynwyn or Teresita Marquez is the first Pinay to compete in Reina Hispanoamericana.
According to Wynwyn, her parents Alma Moreno and Joey Marquez won’t be able to accompany her to the said western-central South American country.
Neither is her boyfriend Mark Herras joining her for some personal reasons.
“Actually, mahaba ang biyahe roon. It will take 26 hours. My Mom, hindi makakapunta dahil may multiple sclerosis problem siya, ganoon din ang Dad na may asthma. They couldn’t stand the weather there. Si Mark din hindi makakapunta for some reasons. But in spirit, nandoon naman sila para suportahan ako. Besides, naroon ang brother kong si Yeoj, siya ang magbabantay sa akin,” she said.
She said that she is set to wear a Pinoy ethnic costume come pageant day.
“Magpi-Filipiniana ako. I will be wearing a Pintados-inspired costume,” she remarked.
She also believes that being non-fluent in Spanish won’t work to her disadvantage.
“Okay lang dahil kahit naman papaano, may similarities naman siya sa Pilipino. Tapos nag-aral din naman ako kahit paano. Nakakaintindi rin ako ng basic, although it’s impossible for me to be fluent sa language kasi ilang months na lang siya,” she said.
“Wala rin akong interpreter pero they will provide me one. Iyong organizer mismo ang nagprisinta that they will provide me with an interpreter,” she added.
Wywyn or Teresita Marquez is the newest Regal millennial baby who signed a movie contract with Regal Entertainment.
If given the chance to choose her leading man, she said she wants to be paired with boyfriend Mark Herras.
“Siyempre, gusto kong makasama si Mark. Actually, umaarte na naman ako at open ako na makasama kahit sino at kung sino man ang ipapareha sa akin,” she concluded.
The other Miss World Philippines winners who inked a movie contract with the premier film production outfit as Regal’s new millennial babies are Miss World Philippines Laura Victoria Lehmann, Miss Multinational Philippines Sophia Senoron, Miss World First Princess Glyssa Leiann Perez and Miss World Second Princess Zhaniethia Jimenez.
Wynwyn and the other Ms. World winners are now being managed by renowned talent manager and Ms. World franchise owner Arnold Vegafria.
