Yael Yuzon talks about juggling his singing and acting career
Kilala si Yael Yuzon bilang vocalist at guitarist ng tanyag na Pinoy rock band na “Sponge Cola”.
Pero, maraming hindi nakakaalam na tulad ng kanyang wife na si Karylle at mother in law na si Zsazsa Padilla, nanalaytay din sa kanya ang dugo ng isang artista.
Hindi naman ito kataka-taka dahil graduate in English literature sa Ateneo de Manila University si Yael at tulad ng kanyang misis na si Karylle ay pareho silang passionate about the arts.
They share the same interest in singing and acting.
Mapapanood si Yael sa short film na “Nang Lumipad ang Batang Agila” ni Mihk Vergara, na siyang director ng “Patintero: Ang Alamat ni Meng Patalo” na nagwagi ng Audience Choice at Gender Sensitivity award noong QCinema 2015.
Ano ang role mo sa “Nang Lumipad ang Batang Agila” ?
“I play the role of a guy na anak ng isang action star. In the process, he discovers something about himself”, aniya. “My father is played by my Kuya. He’s an acting coach and he’s a great actor naman”, dugtong niya.
Ano ang mas nakaka-pressure sa iyo, acting or singing?
“Walang pressure ang pagbabanda sa akin. Actually, mahilig ako sa pressure. I play basketball and I embrace the pressure tulad ng iba kong endeavours. I like being on my toes and being up to the challenge”, sey niya.
Hindi ka ba nahirapang mag-adjust from singing to acting?
“When you’re a songwriter, essentially there’s an element of acting in it. It’s a similar process. So there’s only a thin line between singing and acting”, paliwanag niya.
Ely Buendia and Marc Abaya have branched out into acting. Pumasok ka ba to compete with them?
“As an artist, we all have that commitment to truth. Lahat naman sa batch namin have almost the same courses so normal na lang iyong nagku-compose ka, nasa film ka rin. I also edit and direct the music videos I make”, esplika niya.
Kung magdidirek ka ng isang full-length, ano ang magiging directorial debut mo?
“I’m actually pretty good in stunts pero I’d like to do horror. Mahilig kasi ako sa horror at maging ang thesis film ko was about zombies. I even watch scary movies from the best to the worst kasi part siya ng learning process”, ayon kay Yael.
May balak ka rin bang idirek si Karylle?
“I’d rather prefer that she works with pro directors. Directors who have been doing it for years na matagal na ang experience pero I can work with her too,” aniya.
2014 kayo ikinasal ni Karylle. Wala pa ba sa plano ninyo ang magka-baby?
“We’re very busy kasi with our lives. Karylle is filming in Singapore because she has this show for an international network. So, she has to juggle here and there. Ako naman, busy din. By the time she arrives, she’ll be doing something else and I’ll be doing another. So, hindi nagsasalubong ang schedules namin. I think, it’s the time”, aniya. “I’m glad that we have this social media where we get to talk and communicate regularly na hindi na kailangang magbayad. Tulad ko, hindi naman siya nagpapa-pressure. Even my parents understand the situation we are in. If it’s gonna happen, it will happen”, pagwawakas niya.
